TSDRC MEET (SINGAPORE) - 2014

TSDRC collectively means a representation of past cadets from the Training Ship Dufferin(1927-72), Training Ship Rajendra (1972-93) and Training Ship Chanakya (1993-date). These institutes are the citadel of maritime education in India and have produced some of the greatest professionals, entrepreneurs, managers and leaders in the maritime industry worldwide. The Alumni of this institution are collectively represented formally by the Alumni Association DRACEA, registered in India, while the informal group is called TSDRC.
T S Dufferin
T.S.Dufferin was formed in the year 1927 to train officers for the maritime marine. It was actually an ex-British troop ship of 1st world war vintage, converted to train cadets. The late Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru called her "The Lady in White": This was in 1952 when Dufferin jubilated her 25th anniversary. Almost five decades have passed since then and two illustrious institutions, T S Rajendra and T S Chanakya have descended in the very footsteps of T S Dufferin.

T S Rajendra
In 1972, training ship "Dufferin" was replaced by training ship "Rajendra" specifically designed and meant for training of 250 deck cadets for the Merchant Navy at a time. Being aware that T.S.Rajendra would need replacement, the output needed to be substantially increased, the Government of India decided with great fore thoughts to set up a shore based academy for nautical cadets.

T S Chanakya
Thereby, a shore based Nautical Academy T.S.Chanakya was inaugurated by the then Minister of Surface Transport Shri. Jagdish Tytler on 5th April, 1993 The National Maritime Day and became operational on 1st August, 1993- the date when T.S. Rajendra ceased to be a Training ship. The Merchant Navy is all about traditions. Rather than an exact science,it is more of an art. And like any art it follows a code of conduct. T.S.Chanakya upholds the tradition of its predecessors -Training Ships Dufferin

and Rajendra. Today Merchant Navy is inundated with new management concepts of decentralization, equity and initiative. T.S.Chanakya not only teaches our cadets the new order, but also makes them the upholder of the old one.
